Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
In your first week in VMWare, you will onboard to the company’s processes, get to know your colleagues and team
In you first month, you will deep dive into the technical onboarding, getting to know the products you will be working on, meeting relevant engineers to help you onboard better, always with practice and work on the actual products in mind
In the first three months, taking your next steps in the normal team operations, you will take ownership in 2 or more features and drive their delivery e2e, adhering to the team’s delivery process. You will be introduced to the on-call duties your team provides and help other, more junior team members troubleshoot a problem, research a task they need to work on and provide advice on possible solutions.
In the first half a year, you will already be an integral part of the team, having your own epics and adhering to their delivery. You will become go-to-person for that piece of the product. You will also contribute more and more on other 2-3 major initiatives, expanding your experience, gaining domain knowledge and look for new opportunities on features you can take and own
In the first year of your time in VMWare, you will become a recognized expert in your team on the epics you own. Having gained domain knowledge on a subject, you will start working on design and architecture tasks for its further improvements based on the team’s roadmap.
Responsibilities
Deliver features within the extensibility points of the current systems and work on new deliveries based on scope and roadmap
You will take the initiative in resolving issues reported by other teams and business units
You will proactively monitor all your team’s pipelines and resolve any issues. Goal is to have them all green, all the time
You will do technical research on your own epics, based on approved design and architecture, prepare scope of work and present it to your colleagues once a week in a way they can understand and measure the effort needed to complete the work.
You will be mentoring your junior colleagues, providing them with needed advice and assistance to unblock them
You will do code reviews and serve as an approver on your team’s Merge Requests and resolve any threads started on your own Merge Requests
Requirements
5+ years of experience in designing and delivering commercial software products.
Strong expertise in a high-level language such as Java, Go, C++, Python, C#, etc.
Passion for software development and ability to thrive in fast-paced environment where the focus is on value delivered, not tasks completed.
Demonstrated aptitude in quickly mastering new languages and technologies.
Hands on experience in continuous integration and continuous delivery methods and practices.
Deep understanding of Cloud Computing principles and practices.
Proven expertise in Agile development.
Experience delivering SaaS applications.
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical experience.
